Uyghur Commemoration: To Tell the True Story

Quoted :

Violence and oppression is not new to East Turkestan. The ethnic Uyghur community has endured systematic discrimination and attempts to dilute their culture. Today was a chance for Uyghurs in the Netherlands to tell their stories. 50 Uyghurs came to the Plein in The Hague to have their voices heard and to speak out for their loved ones in East Turkestan, who are not in the position to openly voice their opinions.

In a letter to the Dutch Prime Minister, the Dutch Uyghur community, many of whom have fled persecution, violence, and torture in their homeland, appealed to Mr. Balkenede. They asked the Dutch Parliament to exert diplomatic pressure to safeguard the lives of over 10 million innocent people in China. The UNPO further called upon the Prime Minister to support an international investigation into the circumstances that allowed peaceful protest to end in such tragic loss of life.
